Statement from Telford Raiders:

Telford Raiders are delighted to announce the appointment of ex-first team coach Phil Cavanagh to the role of Director of Rugby.

Phil’s wide coaching and managerial experience in the community game and in RAF rugby league will be invaluable as he takes on this new role at the Raiders.

Phil will lead on the development, recognition, and recruitment of coaches and other matchday rugby-related roles, ensuring all coaches and matchday staff are suitably qualified, feel valued, and are aware of all development and training opportunities available to them.

The Director of Rugby will be the sole contact and will build relationships with the managers of matchday playing facilities. The role is also to be the first point of contact for all website and Facebook enquiries. This role includes coaching volunteers at Shrewsbury Lions; a satellite club of Telford Raiders.

Raiders Chairman Fred Baker said, “We’re delighted that Phil has agreed to take on this new role and will remain an integral part of the club having taken a step back from his previous coaching role. His long experience within rugby league, at the Raiders, RAF, and Oxford will stand the club in good stead and help us grow and develop further.”

Statement from Phil Cavanagh:

Changes in my personal life and family commitments meant I couldn’t commit the time to carry on as the Head Coach, but I’ve been with the Raiders since 2018 and I couldn’t just walk away. I’m really pleased that Fred has offered me the chance to take on this new role, and it means I will be, indirectly, involved in all teams playing under the Raiders banner and not just the Men’s Senior team.

I’ve already been laying the foundations and can’t wait to get fully started in this new role and help bring more success to this great club.
