2024 was a big year for the Raiders both on and off the pitch. Our mens team won back to back Midlands titles and made their debut in the Challenge Cup, our womens team made it 2 finals in 2 seasons, we had great interest in our junior section, our touch sessions remain popular and our junior satellite club the Shrewsbury Lions goes from strength to strength.
Most importantly, although to many not very excitingly, we adopted a new constitution, committee structure and ethos that we’re sure will stand the club in good stead in the coming years.
Life is tough for all community sports clubs across all sports. There are many challenges in an ever changing sporting landscape. Players have more options away from sport, as do volunteers. There is much competition for sponsorships and indeed all inward funding that can help a club grow. We therefore have to be as well organised as possible, make the best use of the resources we have, encourage more players and volunteers by demonstrating that we are a well run, welcoming club. We need to be more ‘professional’ in our approach to everything we do, building on our relationships with local businesses and the local community, the media and our fellow Midlands RL clubs. We have to stand out from the crowd with a playing offer that appeals and has a unique selling point, the Raiders family, we must become the go to club in the area.
